Mariana González Sánchez is a Partner at Vázquez Aldana, Hernández Gómez & Asociados. Her practice focuses in the area of protection of Appellations of Origin, especially Tequila, monitoring and protecting such appellation worldwide, as well as in the registration of trademarks in Mexico and other countries, the defense of Intellectual Property Rights abroad, protection of copyrights or neighboring rights and counselling in the registration of distinctive signs. She is internationally recognized in the Tequila Industry and regularly advises large multinational companies.
Mariana initiated her professional practice at Vázquez Aldana, Hernández Gómez in 2009. Her expertise includes obtainment, analysis and interpretation of the information before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) in order to determine the feasibility of registering distinctive signs in Mexico. In the case of registrations in other countries, she provides extensive advice, working jointly with authorities in those countries in order to facilitate the necessary procedures for clients and, if necessary, provide the appropriate guidance to carry out the proceedings.
Within the Intellectual Property Practice Area abroad, she has extensive experience, and this includes the handling of various cases involving the protection of IP rights before different authorities such as international offices in the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Ecuador, EUIPO, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Australia, Vietnam, Africa, Chile, China, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina.
She also specializes in the protection of copyrights, carrying out within her professional practice the registration of publications before the United States Copyright Office and the protection of the Reservation of Rights.
Likewise, she offers assistance for all types of proceedings for the correct maintenance of trademarks. The Intellectual Property team, which she heads, is in charge of obtaining National and International Apostilles and authentication procedures, as well as legalizations and official English-Spanish translations and domain name registration and maintenance.
Mariana has a Law Degree from Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, in 2011 and a postgraduate degree in “Obligations and Contracts” from the same university in 2012.
She is currently pursuing a Specialization in Information and Communication Technologies Law at the Universidad Panamericana, Campus Guadalajara.
She has participated in several international seminars on Appellations of Origin and Sustainable Development; International Protection of Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications; International Registrations; Trademark Opposition Proceedings before IMPI, and has designed international protection systems for trademarks, certification marks, appellations and Geographical Indications in international jurisdictions. She also has extensive experience in risk assessment and Data Privacy Protection.
